More than 120 police officers were injured during riots at protests against pension reform, which took place on March 23 in France, as announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, Gerald Darmanin. Law enforcement officers detained more than 80 citizens.
Demonstrators took to the streets in large numbers to protest after last week Macron’s government bypassed a vote in the National Assembly to force through the plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030, and extend the required employment period for a worker to receive a full pension on retirement to 43 years.
Violent demonstrations took place in cities all across the country to oppose the package and the use of the executive powers.
