Description

Around 16,000 fireworks rockets were launched from the top of the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper as hundreds of spectators gathered on Sunday to welcome the 2024.

The 16,000 fireworks, made in Taiwan and Japan, were launched over five minutes.

Taipei 101 chairman Chang Hsueh-shun said the fact that the show included fireworks from Japan for the first time reflected the strong bond Taiwan has with its neighbour.

The show, valued at TWD20 million (589.63 million euros), followed the theme of a "colourful world" symbolising the world's return to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to officials.
