Description

Chair of the Independent Expert Panel for the Olympics Brian McCloskey said no evidence was found linking the spread of coronavirus in Tokyo and the Olympic bubble, speaking at a press conference in Japan's capital on Saturday.

"At the moment, there is no evidence that there has been intermixing of the spread between the games and the way in which the Japanese population are not behaving," said McCloskey.

He added that experts would continue analysing the 'huge amount of data' collected over the past few weeks before publishing new findings regarding COVID-19 countermeasures.

Although COVID outbreaks have remained under control within the Olympic village, Tokyo has seen a record number of cases in recent weeks.

According to data by John Hopkins University, Tokyo registered at least 4,515 new coronavirus cases on Friday alone.
