Pulmonologist and renowned breathing expert Martin Tobin told a Minneapolis court that George Floyd's death was caused by a low level of oxygen in his testimony on Thursday.

"This caused damage to his brain that we see, and it also caused PEA arrhythmia that caused his heart to stop," said Tobin.

He added that the result was caused by a number of factors: "He is turned prone on the street, that he has the handcuffs in place, combined with the street, and then that he has a knee on his neck and the that he has a knee on his back and on his side all of these four forces are ultimately going to result in the low tidal volume."

Tobin spoke as the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin over his role in the death of George Floyd continues in Minneapolis.

Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter and third-degree murder.
