Two French rugby players are seen being arrested by police in Mendoza on Tuesday following sexual assault allegations.
The players, named by the French Rugby Federation (FFR) and a number of media outlets as Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, are members of the France national team who were in the city over the weekend to play a test match against Argentina.
A young woman from the city in Argentina's Cuyo region alleged the players left her 'strangled and beaten' after a party on Monday, at a hotel where the team were reportedly staying.
On Tuesday, the men claimed the encounter was consensual while the FFR said they denied any 'coercion or violence'. The players' lawyer, Rafael Cuneo Libarona, also said they denied the allegations made.
The two players are not yet formally charged with any crime following their arrest, a spokesperson for the Mendoza provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office said at the time of publication.
According to media reports, Stade Rochelais and Section Paloise, Jegou and Aurodou’s rugby clubs, said they wouldn't comment and would be waiting for results of the ongoing investigation.
