Mohammad Eslami, Vice-President and the Head of Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran (AEOI), gave an interview to the Iranian state TV on Sunday, revealing that Tehran had amassed more than 120kg of 20 percent enriched uranium, well above the level agreed to in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed in Vienna.
“We have passed the number 120 [kilograms of enriched uranium]. It is more than that, that is, we are ahead of this and ahead of this program. And well, dear people know that they [western powers] were meant to give 20 percent [enriched] fuel to the Tehran reactor. But they did not. If our colleagues did not do it, naturally one of our problems was the lack of fuel for the Tehran reactor. The organization has exceeded that amount [120 kilograms]”, said Mohammad Eslami.
The IAEA and western countries are pressing Iran to keep with the commitments of 2015, whilst the US withdrew from it in 2018 and since has put up the pressure against Tehran with further sanctions.
