Description

Firefighters were seen battling blaze in Cordoba on Friday as forest fires had reached several residential homes in the region. Houses, trees and a police vehicle was also seen incinerated following the incident.

Local media reported that more than 200 firefighters had been deployed to extinguish the flames affecting the town of Capilla del Monte, 100 kilometres north of the province’s capital city.

Authorities pointed to strong winds and the extreme dryness of the soil that challenged emergency workers to put out the flames, adding that an alert state of 'extreme risks' was issued across the Argentinian province.

At least 50 people have been evacuated with no reported casualties. The municipality of Capilla del Monte had also urged the 300 more people to be evacuated given the intensity of wind and threats of another fire.

Wildfires have also hit several other nations in the region earlier this month, including Bolivia and Peru. Meanwhile, flames in Brazil's Amazon forest have spread smog in nearby countries.
