Description

Hundreds took to the streets of Madrid on Friday to protest illegal migration and call on the government to impose stricter immigration policies in Spain.

Footage shows protesters marching from the Plaza de Callao to the Plaza de la Opera while holding flags, banners and flares during the demonstration. Police officers were also seen monitoring the demonstration.

A protest speaker called Spain a 'multicultural ghetto' in his speech and claimed that illegal immigrants in the country are 'dismantling Spain socially, culturally and population-wise.'

"We are forced to see how we are strangers in our own land, abandoned to the fate of gangs of criminals, who are the ones who decide about the lives of honest people," he added.

The protester also addressed accusations of 'violence' and 'xenophobia' that have been made against anti-immigration groups by critics.

He stated: "the only ones who endure the violence of a system that beats us for telling the truth and allows us to be victims of delinquency are us. All the elites desire the dissolution of nations. The Brussels technocrats of the Moncloa Palace have the same pretensions, which are none other than to culturally and socially destroy all the countries that make up Europe."

The protesters called on the Spanish government to crack down on illegal migration and suggested the concept of 'remigration'; a move to expel or incite the mass departure of immigrants living in Spain.

The demonstration was reportedly organised by members of Juventudes Falangistas de Espana (Falangist Youth of Spain), a youth sector of the nationalist group La Falange.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez recently said in a European Council summit that Europe should remain 'open and prosperous' and ensure that migration is 'orderly, secure and equalised'. Meanwhile, other countries like Italy, Poland and Germany are seeking to tighten border control measures across the bloc.

Hungary, Slovakia and Serbia also vowed to make it an 'absolute priority' to tackle migration issues during a joint press conference in Komarno on Tuesday. The countries also criticised the EU for using 'billions for killing' in Ukraine but not for protecting its borders.
