Description

Ocean Park in Hong Kong celebrated the birth of twin panda cubs, with their mother, Ying Ying, believed to be the oldest first-time panda mum on record.

Footage captured on Thursday shows Ying Ying giving birth to one of the twins, just a day before her own 19th birthday. The video also shows mum tenderly cuddling, grooming, and playing with the newborn, as well as eating, sleeping, and walking around the park.

The twin cubs - a female weighing 122 grams and a male weighing 112 grams - were born after more than five hours in labour. Experts from the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) are providing ongoing care for the cubs, who will not be ready to meet the public for several months.

Ying Ying and her partner Le Le arrived in Hong Kong by Beijing in 2007. While Ying Ying previously experienced a miscarriage, this successful delivery marks a significant achievement for the pair and panda conservation efforts at Ocean Park.
