Description

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian commented on the sanctions waiver proposed by the US, stating, "in the area of lifting sanctions, parts of our demands have not yet been addressed" during a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Pekka Haavisto in Tehran on Monday.

The Foreign Ministers met on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran's new government is interested in pursuing bilateral relations with Finland.

Amir-Abdollahian also referred to the Vienna talks on the JCPOA revival and stated, "We hope that at this stage we can reach a final agreement. Whether we can bring the negotiations to a good agreement in the coming days now depends on the initiative, intention, and behaviour of the three European countries and the American side."

On the other side, Haavisto remarked, "We remained supportive of the JCPOA agreement," and added, "the successful outcome of the JCPOA would generate new avenues for engagement with Finland and the European Union. This can ready to further extend our existing cooperation."

A senior State Department official for the Biden administration announced earlier this week a sanctions waiver, as indirect talks on returning the 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and Washington reached an end.

The waiver allowed Russian, European and Chinese companies to undertake non-proliferation work at Iranian nuclear sites.
