Emergency teams at the Mohammed VI hospital in Marrakech were seen admitting and treating survivors of Friday's deadly earthquake in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“My brother, Hussain, is injured," said one survivor outside the facility. "A wall fell over him when we were working at night. When the earthquake hit, we ran away in the dark, then part of the wall fell on him.”

Footage shows ambulances outside the hospital with survivors on stretchers being unloaded and taken inside.

"The town of Amizmiz was hit by a catastrophic disaster," explained another survivor. "We went to bed after dinner, 40 seconds later the earthquake hit the area."

"We managed to evacuate my father and my mother from the house which collapsed later. Everything was destroyed in our neighbourhood, only two percent of buildings survived," he continued. "My cousin was pulled out alive under the rubble. We have never seen such a tragedy."

The man also claimed that there was little in the way of an immediate emergency response.

At time of publication, officials confirmed that the estimated death toll was over 2,000. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre was located 72 km southwest of Marrakech in Morocco's High Atlas mountain range.
