Dozens of fans gathered at Domaine de la Brulerie in Douchy to pay tribute to French cinema legend Alain Delon after his death on early Sunday morning at the age of 88.

Footage shows fans outside Delon's home placing flowers on his gate and fences while police officers guard the movie star's residence.

"I really liked him and watched a lot of his movies. I liked it," one fan said. "Now it hurts my heart. When I heard he was dead, he passed away, I thought, oh dear, I have to go. It hurts me to see him."

Another said it 'evokes a lot of emotional pain' after learning of Delon's passing, adding that he will always be 'a bit like the emblem of France.'

"He was a beauty like we'll never see again, like a movie actor like we'll never see again. No more[...] It's important to me, it's close to my heart because it was someone I loved very much," she said.

One fan said the 'most important part' of Delon's on-screen personality was 'his charisma and strength.'

"He had a great sense of humour about him. He made fun of himself," added another. "He didn't just do gangster films. He could also play roles where he could step back."

The French-Swiss actor, who began his illustrious career in the late 1950s, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his three children and loved ones.

Delon, who starred in nearly 80 films, including, 'La Piscine', 'Plein Soleil', 'The Leopard' and 'Le Samouraï' had retired to the estate as his health declined in July 2023.

The actor was celebrated with a Palme d'Or d'Honneur at the 2019 Cannes Festival for his lifetime achievements.
