Description

The United Arab Emirates air-dropped 80 tonnes of food aid to the residents of Gaza on Sunday as part of Abu Dhabi's 'Birds of Goodness' campaign.

Footage shows the Emirati Air Force plane being loaded with relief supplies before takeoff from Abu Dhabi. The aircraft can later be seen dropping the aid boxes over the skies of Gaza. Residents can be seen running to collect the aid as dozens of boxes descended via parachutes.

"The planes are approaching and the children are filled with joy and happiness today. This day is a celebration for the Palestinian people and Gaza," one local said.

The total amount of aid dropped over Gaza since the launch of operation 'Birds of Goodness' has reached 3,623 tonnes, according to the UAE's news agency, WAM.

This mission is part of the UAE's broader humanitarian initiatives for Palestinians in Gaza. It follows several aid operations such as 'Gallant Knight' 1, 2, and 3.

The Israel-Hamas war has continued for over a year, starting with the militant group's unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the enclave, the IDF launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing over 42,600 and injuring at least 99,795 according to the Palestinian side.
