Russian cross-country skiers held a press conference in Zhangjiakou on Sunday, after their gold medal victory in the 4x19 kilometer relay at the Winter Games.

"A big win for our team. And really, on such a tough track in such difficult weather conditions with strong competitors today we were able to show that today we are strong, and in every race, we show good results and in every race, we try to fight for the victory," commented cross-country skier Alexander Bolshunov.

In his turn, Russian cross-country skier Denis Spitsov noted that the Olympic Games are not a place for politics, but a competition all sportsmen should join.

"I think that we’re not entitled to discuss political issues here, because the Olympics are first of all created to unite. And there is no animosity among athletes. We’re doing here one common thing, we’re developing ski racing all over the world," he noted.

The ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) cross-country team also included Alexei Chervotkin and Sergei Ustyugov.

The second place was taken by the Norwegian team, and the bronze medal winner was France.

The Winter Games in Beijing began on February 4 and will continue until February 20.
