Description

The federal cabinet has decided on a draft law to help the coalition factions set up a reconstruction fund to help rebuild what was destroyed in the devastating flood disaster that hit western Germany this summer, it was announced at a press briefing in Berlin on Wednesday.

“This should create the necessary legal basis for a national fund for reconstruction aid in 2021, which will secure the financing for the restoration of the infrastructure and the reconstruction aid,” said German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert.

"The special asset for the federal government is endowed with up to 30 billion euro in federal funds," he added.

Western parts of the country were heavily flooded in July this year causing severe damage on the infrastructure of the area and leaving more than 150 people dead.
