Description

Thousands of anti-Lukashenko protesters took to the streets near the Minsk Hero City Obelisk on Victors Avenue, as seen in drone footage from Sunday.

Protesters could be seen marching through the city’s Avenue while carrying the former white-red-white Belarusian flag, which has become synonymous with the Belarusian opposition.

Riot police were also seen blocking the street to stop protesters from marching forward.

Other anti-government protests were also held in other cities of Belarus.

Earlier on Saturday, the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that 430 people were detained during the rally as 385 of them were released.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election that saw incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.

On August 19 the European Union announced plans to enact sanctions against "a substantial number of individuals responsible for violence, repression, and election fraud" in Belarus.
