Former Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino talked to RT in an interview filmed at an undisclosed location after an Ecuadorian judge ordered his imprisonment over alleged instigation offense.

“I am accused of giving a speech at a meeting of our political organisation and they asked to issue an arrest warrant,” Patino said, adding that he believes the government wants him arrested “because of dissidence.”

Patino accused Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno of taking direct orders from the CIA, claiming Moreno is attempting to “ruin everything that we have built.”

Discussing the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, the former diplomat accused the Ecuadorian government of breaking the country’s constitution and international agreements.

“It is called principle of non-refoulement. It is clearly stated in our constitution that a foreigner who was given an asylum cannot be expelled, cannot be given to the hands of executioners, even though he is a foreigner,” he said.

Patino went on to say that Moreno and had made an agreement with the US to “extradite Assange,” “persecute Venezuela” and to “destroy integration in the South America.”

Assange was arrested by British police on 11 April after Ecuador officially revoked his asylum status and allowed UK police to escort him from the embassy and into custody.
