Description

Around a hundred people gathered at Les Invalides, close to the National Assembly in Paris on Wednesday where a vote was taking place in the Social Affairs Committee, in support of the proposal to repeal the 64-year retirement age put forward by the LIOT group.

During the gathering, many members of the left-wing NUPES coalition movement gathered and spoke to denounce the government's methods.

"It's only through social mobilization, and by maintaining the balance of power with Emmanuel Macron, that we'll be able to get this law withdrawn," Antoine Leaument, a French MP for La France Insoumise party told the crowd saying there was a "battle going on at the National Assembly".

The deputies, mainly from La France Insoumise (LFI), notably denounced the decision taken this Wednesday morning by the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly to abolish article 1 of the bill on the pension reform carried by the Libertes, Independents, Outre-mer et Territoires (LIOT) group.

Macron has attempted to regain control of the domestic agenda following huge protests and demonstrations over his pension changes in recent months - including raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
