Thousands from across the United Arab Emirates gathered at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi on New Year’s Eve to watch the capital welcome 2024 with a record-breaking fireworks and drone display.

A 30-minute show using 5,000 drones culminated with the unmanned aerial vehicles spelling out 'Happy New Year 2024'. It was then followed by a 40-minute fireworks display. Abu Dhabi broke four Guinness World Records for designs, duration, and size of the show.
In total, the UAE saw six world records broken across two emirates this New Year. Just two hours away from Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah broke two Guinness World Records; its own record for the 6th time in a row for the longest chain of aquatic floating fireworks (5.8 kilometres) and also for the longest straight-line drone display (two kilometres).
