Description

The Gargiulo sisters, Teresa and Susana, have been sharing a special Christmas tradition initiated by their mother, Amalia, 79 years ago, in the heart of Buenos Aires.

The footage, filmed on Tuesday, shows the Gargiulo sisters unveiling a magical 440-piece nativity scene in their home, which captures the essence of the Christmas story using classic plaster mixed with modern resin.

Inspired by their theatre background, Teresa and Susana, over the years, transformed a small nativity scene into a growing spectacle. They decided to share the joy with the community by opening their living room windows during the Christmas season, inviting anyone passing by to peek into the magical display.

"Sometimes, people ring the doorbell in early December, like what happened with a young man who came with his son. His father used to bring him to see the nativity scene when he was little, and now he wanted his son to see the nativity scene he saw when he was a child. That's wonderful," shared Teresa.

The sisters receive new figures each year as gifts from neighbours and friends, continuing the legacy started by their mother.

"It's a really big effort, but the satisfaction is knowing that everyone knows this is the home of the nativity scene. And the satisfaction of knowing, as Mom used to say, that the one born is the baby Jesus, not Santa Claus. It's a different thing because the gifts are brought by the Wise Men," she added.

The Gargiulo sisters take pride in creating a space that brings joy to others during the holiday season.

"As we say when we set up the nativity scene, it's an opportunity to open the heart," explained Susana.

As the Epiphany approaches, marking the end of the Christmas season, the sisters will carefully store each piece in trunks brought from Italy over a century ago.
