Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the memorial in Jerusalem built to commemorate those 87 civilians and soldiers of the city killed since the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Footage from Monday, the first anniversary of the attacks, shows Netanyahu touring the memorial with Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, with the two lighting candles at the site.
“We remember our fallen, our captives - whom we are committed to bringing back - and our heroes who fell for the defence of the homeland,” the PM said.
“We endured a terrible massacre a year ago,” he added.
“It is the mission of each and every one of us to continue together and to act for unity, seeing the common ground among us all, for the sake of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, and for the State of Israel,” commented Lion.
A year has passed since Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.
In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,909 people had been killed and more than 97,303 injured at the time of publication.
