The young girl, Reem, confronted Merkel, saying that "others are really able to enjoy their lives and you yourself can't enjoy it with them." Her father can't work on the temporary residency permit he has been issued, which means she will likely not be able to continue studying in Germany as she would like.
Merkel then answered that "politics is sometimes hard" and that there are thousands of others in refugee camps. "We just can't manage" to let everyone come to Germany, she said. "Some will have to go back."
