Description

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan sat down for talks in Sochi on Tuesday, as the five-day truce in northern Syria is set to expire.

According to the Kremlin, the two leaders are expected to discuss "the developments in Syria, including the normalisation of the situation in the country's north-eastern regions."

Turkey's military offensive, dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring,' began on October 9, days after the White House announced the withdrawal of US troops from the area.

Turkey agreed to suspend operations on October 17 to let Kurdish-led forces withdraw, following talks in Ankara between Erdogan and US Vice President Mike Pence.
