Description

The first Emirati aid ship carrying 2000 tons of urgent relief supplies for Lebanon arrived in the port of Beirut on Friday, as part of the 'UAE stands with you, Lebanon' campaign that was launched at the beginning of October.

Footage shows the ship's arrival at the port, with a sign on it reading 'Emirates Humanitarian Aid Ship to Lebanon.' Aid boxes within the ship can also be seen.

From the port of Beirut, Lebanese Minister of Health Firas Al-Abiad stated, "I want to reaffirm the great appreciation of the Lebanese people for the United Arab Emirates, both its leadership and its citizens, for standing by us during these difficult circumstances that Lebanon is going through. Whether through the ongoing airlift that is delivering medical, relief, and food supplies, or through this maritime bridge."

The campaign was launched in early October to support the Lebanese people amidst the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah. The collection effort is being coordinated by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, according to the official website of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to the campaign, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed ordered the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon worth $100 million and allocated $30 million to assist Lebanese refugees who have fled to Syria.

Israel is conducting a ground incursion into parts of southern Lebanon, as well as an ongoing campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, over 2,400 people have been killed in the aerial attacks.

The current escalation began last month with explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands. The sides have exchanged cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
