Description

Hundreds of members and supporters of the Extinction Rebellion movement marched through Glasgow, the city hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), on Wednesday, denouncing what they see as 'greenwashing' at the summit.

While delegates inside the COP26 tackled global issues on how to fund a shift towards cleaner energies, the activists rallied, holding signs with messages for the governments and companies who continue to harm the environment.

The march was heavily escorted by police officers and ended in confrontations and arrests near the offices of energy supplier SSE Energy.

Under the UK presidency, together with Italy, the COP26 set four main goals: to secure global net-zero by mid-century, keep 1.5 degrees Celsius within reach, adapt to protect communities and natural habitats, and mobilise finances and work together to make the Paris Agreement operational.
