Description

Polish border troops used a loudspeaker on Tuesday asking for Belarus to let the stranded migrants at the closed Bruzgi-Kuznica border checkpoint return home.

"Neighbours, Belarus, we respectfully request you to come to your senses. These are innocent women and children. Let them go home. Not long ago we guarded the border hand in hand, and now you act so terribly in relation to innocent people," the message said.

Migrants can also be seen throwing stones through the fence, with the Polish border guards firing water cannons in response.

Polish special services estimate that around 3,500 migrants have gathered at the Bruzgi-Kuznica border crossing.

Warsaw has increased the number of troops on the border to repel the migrants and also brought in special equipment.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Monday that Minsk was ready to organise flights to send migrants back to the homeland.

The migrant crisis comes amid escalating tensions between the EU and Belarus. Brussels has accused Lukashenko of orchestrating the migrant flow as part of a 'hybrid war' designed to put pressure on the bloc over sanctions. Minsk has denied the allegations.

Poland last month strengthened border patrols on the frontier with Belarus and put up a barbed-wire fence in place in an attempt to stem the flow.
