Description

A woman and her daughter were killed and seven other family members were injured when a shell hit their house in the village of Al-Bulayl, Eastern Deir ez-Zor, on Friday, in an alleged shelling by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to the Syrian news agency SANA.

"They were sleeping at five in the morning when three shells hit them," shared a resident of the village of Al-Bulayl. "Nine people were affected; two martyred and seven were injured. May God be sufficient. They were all civilians, not military personnel".

Footage from Al-Assad Hospital in Deir ez-Zor shows injured men, women and children receiving medical treatment.

"Around 6:30 this morning injuries arrived at the emergency department of Al-Assad Hospital in Deir ez-Zor due to shells falling on the village of Al-Bulayl," explained Dr Muthanna Al-Youssef, Director of Al-Assad Hospital in Deir ez-Zor. "Woman and child were martyred. The child had a head injury with brain matter exposed. Surgery was performed, but about an hour later, she passed away. The remaining injuries are about nine, mostly children and women".

The situation in eastern Deir ez-Zor has deteriorated following clashes that began on Wednesday between Arab tribes and the SDF. The US-backed SDF claimed that the Syrian Arab Army was attacking villages in its territory east of the Euphrates.

The Syrian defence ministry has not yet responded to the SDF's claims.

Syrian media had reported that Arab tribal forces had taken control of SDF positions and American weapons during the latest clashes in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor on Wednesday.
