Description

Injured people were seen being taken to hospital on Wednesday, following reported shelling in the Sheikh Nasser district of Khan Younis on Wednesday.

Footage shows trucks and cars rushing wounded locals to the Nasser Medical Complex, as well as people being carried inside, and others grieving over the bodies of their friends and relatives.

Mahrous Oweida claimed his son had been killed while "sitting in front of the stall and repairing shoes to make a living and support a family of eight".

"We will avenge our children," he added. "I appeal to the resistance to keep fighting and not surrender to [Israeli PM Benjamin] Netanyahu or anyone else…I used to work in Israel, I didn’t like Hamas, but now I am pro-Hamas and pro-resistance because Israel killed my son and other civilians."

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel and some of its closest allies, such as the US and the EU.

According to the Palestinian Civil Defence organisation in Gaza, eight were killed and 31 others injured in the attack.

Israel has not commented specifically on the strike but has repeatedly denied targeting civilians. Earlier in the day, the military announced that its troops "continue operational activities in central Gaza. The troops dismantled Hamas terror infrastructure, as well as sniper and observation posts. In addition, IDF troops continue operational activities in the area of Khan Yunis."

"Over the past day, the IAF (Israeli Air Force) struck over 40 terror infrastructure sites throughout the Gaza Strip, including structures from which terrorists fired anti-tank missiles, and terrorists who posed a threat to IDF troops," it added.

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is in its tenth month. Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Since then, the Israeli army's large-scale offensive has killed 39,965 and injured more than 92,294, according to the Palestinian side at time of publication.
