Residents of the village of Slobozia Conachi in Galati county on Sunday were seen cleaning their houses following flash floods that claimed at least four lives southeastern Romania, according to reports.

"It was horrible, everybody was desperate, the children and grandma were crying, we couldn't do anything, all what we could save you can see us wearing," shared Ioana, a resident.

The bodies of four victims were discovered in the localities of Pechea, Draguseni, Costache Negri and Corod, according to the Romanian Department of Emergency Situations.

According to Emil Dragomir, the mayor of Slobozia Conachi, 721 houses were destroyed leaving around 3,000 displaced while the counting is underway.

The storm hit 19 localities in eight counties in Romania, with strong winds toppling dozens of trees, damaging vehicles and blocking roads.

Deadly torrential rains and floods caused by a major storm continue to affect several Central and Eastern European countries including Romania but also the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland as well as Austria.

Thousands of people have been evacuated across several countries where hundreds of thousands of homes are now without electricity.

Large floods also affected Vienna and parts of Lower Austria on Sunday morning after a river overflowed due to heavy rainfall.

According to Austrian media, some buildings could only be reached by boat while people were evacuated in the early hours of the morning.
