Hezbollah said that it was investigating the causes of the blasts. It confirmed the explosions of pagers and reported the deaths of two of its members as well as a child. According to media reports, some Hezbollah officials blamed Israel, while that country did not comment on the blasts.
According to the official Lebanese News Agency, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati was closely following developments and advised Health Minister Firas al-Abiad to mobilise all the department's efforts to treat the wounded in hospitals.
