Police performed random checks on football fans across Rome to exclude British fans infringing the quarantine ahead of the England-Ukraine game in the Italian capital on Saturday.
The authorities revoked the tickets for fans from the UK due to fears of the Delta variant of coronavirus, while those who made it to Italy before June 28 had to isolate themselves for five days and present a negative COVID test to be allowed at the Stadio Olimpico for the match.
British expats will be allowed to the stadium with proof of their residence outside of the UK.
"I expect if to be heavily Ukrainian tonight, I feel a lot of Ukrainian, Eastern Europeans are going to come to Italy since they are allowed to. It's going to make it tougher for the English fans, that may be here, and the English team, you know, to play in a stadium that's not heavily British. But i think they're going to overcome that," stated an English national football team fan from Malta.
British residents who will come to Italy despite the ban will be fined up to £2,500.
