Pope Francis urged countries around the world to cooperate in finding a fairer way of distributing COVID-19 vaccines during his 'Urbi et Orbi' ('To the City and the World') sermon in Vatican City on Sunday.
"Everyone, especially the most vulnerable among us require assistance and has the right to have access to necessary care. This is even more evident in these times when all of us are called to combat the pandemic and vaccines are an essential tool in this fight," said the head of the Roman Catholic church.
"The vaccine should be international, in the spirit of global responsibility to commit to overcoming delays in the distribution of vaccines and to facilitate their distribution. Especially in the poorest countries," he added.
Francis spoke after leading an Easter mass at St Peter's Basilica with a small number of worshippers in attendance.
