Description

Tensions rose between police and protesters in Portland, Oregon, in the early hours of Monday, as thousands gathered to demonstrate against racism and police brutality, on the eleventh day.

Crowds of protesters could be seen pushing against the fence of the Justice Centre, as the police warned protesters to disperse.

Protests and demonstrations have taken place across the US and around the world in reaction to the killing of George Floyd during a police encounter, with riots and looting also occurring in some areas, including Minneapolis.

Floyd, a 46-year-old father of two from Houston, died in Minneapolis on May 25 after a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes as he said, "I can't breathe" and "don't kill me."

Four officers involved in the incident have since been fired. The officer who knelt on Floyd was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, while the other three were charged with aiding and abetting.
