Description

Hundreds of Iraqi Christians celebrated Palm Sunday for the first time in three years in Qaraqosh, Sunday, flocking to a church which had previously been set fire to by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).

A procession, which included scores of children, arrived at the town which has been near deserted since its liberation from the IS in December 2016.

The IS militants reportedly used the city’s largest church as a shooting range when they occupied the town. Crosses were destroyed, books burnt, and before leaving IS also tried to burn down the whole church.
