Description

After exploratory talks, party representatives from the Social Democratic (SPD), Greens and Free Democrats (FDP) said they were hoping for a 'decision base' regarding coalition talks, before Friday.

Michael Kellner of the Greens, Lars Klingbeil of the SPD and Volker Wissing of the FDP commented on the friendly and factual tone of the previous talks, but also noted that what had been discussed would have to be formulated in writing.

Klingbeil also asked the public to refrain from asking questions on topics, as substantive evaluations would be presented to the public and the press in a timely manner, at the press conference in Berlin on Tuesday.

When asked by a reporter if a traffic light coalition has "become more likely" following today's talks, Klingbeil replied that they are on " the right track," but didn't reveal more.

A 'traffic light' coalition comprising the Green Party, SPD and FDP is likely to form the new German government as no single party achieved a majority in the Bundestag following September 26 general election.

Another potential governing coalition includes the 'Jamaica,' comprising of the Green Party, CDU/CSU and FDP governing majority.

SPD's chancellor candidate and current finance minister Olaf Scholz has said he aims to have a coalition deal before Christmas.
