Description

Search and rescue teams were seen evacuating people across Emilia-Romagna on Friday, as more than 1,000 were forced to flee their homes following devastating flooding across vast areas of central Europe.

"We evacuated about 40 adults and children but also dogs and cats. Some wanted to stay at home because they preferred to stay at home maybe on the upper floors where they felt safer," said one member of the team.

"The water came with a bang, yesterday everything got covered," said one local, while another added: "I grabbed three, four bags, I don't even know. If I miss something but I will buy it, I just want to leave."

At least two people remained missing at time of publication.

Austria, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic have also been battered by heavy rains and strong winds this week, triggering floods and evacuations.

Thousands have been forced to leave their homes across the continent and 24 people have reportedly been killed in total. It also left tens of thousands of households without electricity or fresh water
