Description

The aftermath of destruction in the town of Houmine El Faouqa in the Nabatiyeh district of southern Lebanon was seen on Monday, following Israeli airstrikes on the region.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry 274 people were killed and over 1,000 injured at time of publication.

Footage shows destroyed houses and shops, as well as burnt-out cars. The video also features ambulance workers searching for survivors under the rubble.

Hussein Alloush, a paramedic, explained how he had found out his own house had been hit while transporting wounded people to hospital.

"Thank God there were no casualties," he added.

The Israeli army said it had launched ‘intensive and precise strikes against terrorist targets widely planted throughout Lebanon', calling on civilians in villages throughout southern Lebanon and Bekaa Valley ‘to immediately stay away from areas used by Hezbollah for military purposes'.

Local media reported that several villages in the districts of Tyre, Sidon, Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Hasbaya, Jazin, West Bekaa and Bekaa Governorate came under bombardment.

Hezbollah announced that it had sent dozens of missiles towards Israeli military sites, targeting the Northern Corps reserve headquarters, the Galilee Division reserve base and its logistics warehouses at Ami’ad base, Rafael's military-industrial complex in the Zovulun area north of Haifa, and the main warehouses of the Northern District at Nimra base.

Tensions have escalated over the past week following the deadly mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios used by Hezbollah and an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which killed the group’s senior commander Ibrahim Aqil, along with around 50 others. On Sunday morning, Hezbollah launched rocket attacks on areas near the northern Israeli city of Haifa.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah, and Lebanese and Palestinian factions, since the start of the Gaza war.
