The secretary general of the Belarusian Red Cross Society Dmitri Shevtsov stated on Sunday that the situation at the Bruzgi migrant camp on the border with Poland could not be called ‘calm,’ though he noted that it was ‘routine' in spite of this.

According to Shevtsov, the national organisation is distributing assistance to people "who are in unsuitable conditions.” He added that the Belarusian Red Cross ‘is a provider’ of assistance from various public organisations, as well as from ordinary citizens.

"Yesterday we set up tents, heated, large tents, first of all, to provide food for children and women and pregnant women, because we saw that children do not always have access to food," Shevtsov said.

In addition, the Red Cross representative stated that the inhabitants of the border camp are provided with food packages, drinking water, and also with warm clothing and blankets from local companies.

"We understand that no matter how long they [migrants] stay here, even if one or two people stay, we will ensure their well-being," declared Dmitri Shevtsov.

Following a surge in attempts by migrants to get through Belarus to Poland and onwards to other EU countries, Warsaw has accused Minsk of provoking a migrant crisis in Europe. The Ministry of Defense of Belarus has said in response that Polish accusations of border violations by Belarusian military units and its involvement in causing the migration crisis were groundless.
