Dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched on the streets of Paris on Saturday to demand a ban on Israel's participation in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Footage shows demonstrators marching with Palestinian flags and keffiyehs while chanting pro-Palestinian slogans. Some protesters can also be seen holding up signs reading 'No to Israel's participation in the Olympics! Genocide is not an Olympic test', 'In Gaza, people are reduced to pieces' and 'Palestine will not be silenced'.
"We are facing genocide," one protester said. "It is no longer possible to remain silent in the face of this. There have been so many examples in the world of genocide, of people being destroyed, of families being destroyed. We cannot remain silent. We have to speak out, we have to fight."
Demonstrators are calling on the French government and Olympics committee to ban Israel for its actions in the Gaza Strip as fighting between Israel and Hamas continues for the tenth month.
President Emmanuel Macron has previously defended the participation of Israeli athletes under the Israeli flag, claiming that Israel was not 'attacking' but that it was 'responding' to a 'terrorist attack'.
"It's a disgrace to have an Israeli delegation taking part in the Olympic Games, when they include genocidal soldiers. The Israeli delegation must be banned from taking part in the Olympic Games," said one protester, French-Palestinian lawyer Salah Hammouri.
"This ongoing genocide must be stopped. The complicity of France, Europe and the United States must be stopped. We are here to say that the occupied Palestinian people have the right, like any other people under occupation, to fight for their freedom with all possible means of resistance," he added.
The 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11. This will be the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Olympics, after 1900 and 1924.
Meanwhile, fighting continues after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.
Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 38,848 people had been killed and more than 89,459 injured at time of publication.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region
