French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced on Wednesday, a two-year-extension of the working period necessary to be assigned a full pension, triggering the anger of workers and trade unions.
"We are supposedly in a country of human rights. What does Macron do for Human Rights? He massacres his people with batons, with his militia. This is not a police force what we have today, it is a militia," Francois, another Yellow vest protester said.
Members of the Yellow Vest movement joined the protests led by unions that have been held across the country for over a week. The government is reportedly aiming to introduce a universal pension system, but trade unions say that this will result in millions of private sector workers having to work beyond the legal retirement age.
