Description

Turkey's domestically produced COVID-19 vaccine, Turkovac, is being trialled as a booster shot for those with two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, as seen in Ankara on Monday.

Ihsan Ates, the chief physician at Ankara State Hospital, announced that "this is a task which is at the phase 2/B study, in which we will do the Turkovac reminder dose in the volunteers who have exceeded 90 days after two doses of BioNTech."

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca stated that the trial, which starts on Monday, will mark a 'world-first' in terms of administering an inactive vaccine, the Turkovac, to those who have already received two doses with a messenger RNS (mRNA) vaccine, like the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech.

The study is expected to be completed within three months with the help of a total of 1034 volunteers

Turkovac shots will be administered to adolescents as a primer dose, and pregnant women will receive the vaccine next week.
