The rally took place during the broadcast of Macron’s interview on the TF1 channel (8pm local time, 18:00 GMT), in which he promised to tackle inflation and introduce a 2 billion euro tax cut by 2027.
The president has attempted to regain control of the domestic agenda, following huge protests and demonstrations over his pension changes in recent months - including raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
Macron signed the plans into law last month, following approval from the country's highest constitutional court, and announced a '100 day' domestic action plan which he hopes will unite the country.
Unions and other groups have promised to continue with strikes and demonstrations. Macron claims the changes are needed to ensure the sustainability of the system.
