Description

A foreign ministry spokesperson commented on the recent suspension of flights at Ramstein air base, stating that it is a 'common goal' of the EU and US to resume the evacuation of vulnerable Afghans, during a conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Adebahr stated that the flights are currently suspended due to 'health precautions,' adding, "it’s our common goal that the flights will be resumed as soon as possible, and that the vulnerable Afghans can safely travel to their goal country."

The statement came as the US halted inbound flights of Afghanistan evacuees, following a measles outbreak among evacuees in Virginia and Wisconsin.

Five reportedly arrived with the disease as of Tuesday, according to The Virginia Department of Health.

Adebahr also noted the resumption of Kabul-bound flights by Pakistani airlines, stating that she hoped it would be possible for the EU and US to resume 'civil operation' of Kabul airport, in order to evacuate those from vulnerable groups.
