The members of the rally demand the resignation of Lukashenko and the release of protesters, who were previously detained during demonstrations.

It is also reported the law enforcement officers are maintaining order during the rally, with clashes yet to be reported.

Earlier in the day 65,000 Lukashenko supporters gathered for a pro-government rally on the Independence square in Minsk, accordng to media outlets reported citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

Massive rallies kicked off in Belarus after the exit polls results were announced on Sunday, August 9. According to the Central Election Commission, Lukashenko, who has been in power in Belarus since 1994, won the August 9 election with 80.1 percent of the vote. The opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received just over 10 percent of ballots.

Since the beginning of the protests, more than 6,500 people have been arrested. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported hundreds of injured among which there are 103 law enforcement officers. According to the ministry, one protester died while trying to throw a hand-made explosive device towards the police.
