Description

Thousands of anti-government Yellow Vest protesters took to the streets of major cities across France to mark movement's third anniversary, on Saturday. Demonstrations turned violent in Paris, with clashes breaking out with police in the afternoon as several hundred protesters marched between the neighbourhoods of Bercy and Alesia.

Several protesters were detained and police were seen using tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Demonstrators also denounced the government's COVID-19 measures, mandatory vaccinations and the health pass.

The first Yellow Vest protests were held in November 2018, in response to fuel tax hikes proposed by the French government. In a short period of time, the demonstrations became a nationwide movement against economic injustice, police brutality and the policies of French President Emmanuel Macron.
