Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) reiterated Saudi Arabia's 'categorical rejection' of the ongoing 'brutal Israeli attacks' on Lebanon and Gaza while speaking at the opening session of the joint Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit in Riyadh on Monday.
"The Kingdom reiterates its condemnation and categorical rejection of the genocide committed by Israel against the brotherly Palestinian people, which has claimed more than 150,000 martyrs, injured and missing people, most of whom are women and children," MBS said.
"We express our deep condemnation of the Israeli military operations targeting Lebanese territory and reject the threat to Lebanon's security and stability, the violation of its territorial integrity and the displacement of its citizens," he added.
The Saudi leader also denounced the Israeli parliament for passing legislation banning UNRWA from operating in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
"The Kingdom also deplores the prevention of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from carrying out relief work in the Palestinian territories and hindering the work of humanitarian organisations from providing relief assistance to the brotherly Palestinian people," he said.
Later, MBS called on the international community to 'uphold its responsibilities' to end the fighting in the Middle East and prevent further escalation between Israel and Iran.
"We call on the international community to uphold its responsibilities to maintain international peace and security by immediately halting Israeli aggression against the brothers in Palestine and Lebanon and forcing Israel to respect the sovereignty of the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran and not to attack its territory," he said.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had called for the 'follow-up' summit on November 11 to "discuss the ongoing Israeli military operations on Palestinian and Lebanese territories and developments in the current situation in the region."
The previous summit was held under the directives of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on November 11, 2023, in Riyadh. The final statement of the summit condemned "the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the barbaric, brutal and inhuman war crimes and massacres committed by the colonial occupation government against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and demanded that it be stopped immediately."
The statement also rejected the justification of the 'Israeli war on the Gaza Strip' following the events of October 7, 2023 'under any pretext'.
