Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received the European Parliament’s Sakharov human rights prize on behalf of the opposition in Belarus, represented by the Coordination Council, during a ceremony in Brussels on Wednesday.
"Your courage and the strength of your (fighting) spirit opened the door for the revolution which began in 2020. We honour you, we pay tribute to you today for your resistance and perseverance,” said David Sassoli, the president of the EU Parliament who presented the Belarusian opposition activist with the award.
Tikhanovskaya vowed to continue opposing the rule of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko urging "Europe and the world" to “be braver in their decision and support the people of Belarus now, not tomorrow and not sometime in the future."
