02:08Swedish women's national football team forward Sofia Jakobsson dedicated her performance at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup to her younger brother, who was seriously injured late last year, while speaking to journalists in Lyon on Tuesday.
"It was a really hard Christmas at home, [when] my brother fell unluckily on his head and was in coma for 12 days and needed to operate and take of the skull and yeah when he was laying there in coma I told him that I was going to play this World Cup for him, so it was why I dedicated this cup for him. He has recovered really well and he shown me that he is really strong" said Jakobsson.
Jakobsson said that she spoke to him on the phone before Sweden's victory against Germany, in which she scored a goal. "He was really happy after the game," she added.
The Swedish striker also touched upon her team's upcoming match against the Netherlands in the Women's World Cup semifinal, saying, "if we play our game and play at the level we did against Germany, we have a really big chance.''
Sweden and the Netherlands will clash in the Women's World Cup semifinal at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon on Wednesday. Kick-off is set for 20:00 GMT.
