Thousands of spectators gathered in Paris to watch an unusual light show on Saturday.
Footage features the large Olympic and Paralympic cauldron designed by Mathieu Lehanneur and lit by the Olympic torch setting off into the Paris skies. The illuminated Eiffel Tower can also be seen.
"It's a nice show, having seen it on TV, when was last Friday? It was already something, this is a moving moment and what's more, it's from the right angle there's the Eiffel Tower just behind so it's...it's a lovely sight," one of the event participants said.
According to media reports, it was the first time in the history of the Games that a 7-metre (23-feet) diameter ring of fire supported by a giant air balloon, the cauldron, flew through the air.
Mathieu Lehanneur was reportedly inspired by the ancient Greek Olympic flame ceremony, and tends to represent freedom.
The 2024 Olympic Games take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, marking the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Olympics, following the 1900 and 1924 games.
