Government spokesman Christofer Burger confirmed that the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow had arranged return flights for citizens stranded at the Polish-Ukrainian border.
According to Burger, during the Berlin press conference on Monday, the return flights for volunteers to Iraq will take place on Thursday.
Government spokesperson Steffen Seibert added that "what should happen now is that, migrants with the help from their national authorities are safely returned to their country of origins.”
Airlines that have in turn brought refugees from the crisis areas to Belarus should expect "painful sanctions" because, according to Burger, they have allowed themselves to be instrumentalised by Lukashenko.
Despite the tense situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, it was "certain that the current situation cannot provide a military solution," Burger said, before reiterating that "Belarus is waging a hybrid campaign against the European Union and is abusing the suffering of refugees in an inhumane war for political purposes."
